Petroglyph National Monument is in the middle of Albuquerque suburbia. But when we parked the car at the trail head and walked over the first sandy hill, Sarah the Dog and I were one of the only ones walking the rocky paths. It was a quiet few hours, in which we hardly saw another person.
Most of the drawings are at the halfway point, so I tried not to linger too much at the beginning of the trail. Drawings can be found on rocks directly on the trail, others just a bit up the hill and some were high above us.
I loved how immediate it all was, looking at drawings on rocks in a place that looked exactly as it did when the drawings were made (well, except for suburbia off in the distance). Just about the opposite experience from yesterday.
